Creating creativity

The Vice President of Logistics asked me to meet.  I had been advising this international company on strategic planning, and had gotten to know Keith during the process.  He wanted to talk about a team he was on, charged with finding new ways to achieve the company’s revenue, profit and strategy objectives.

“Stan, we’ve put together this task team, made of both senior leaders and more junior professionals from every major function in the company.  It’s a good group of people,” he explained. “Our challenge is to find new ways to increase sales, reduce costs and improve our strategic positioning in the market.”

“That’s quite a charter,” I said.  “What can I help with?”

Antidote for crappy news

I’m sure most of you have observed that the news media daily provide a steady torrent of bad news:  tornadoes in the Great Plains, wildfires in Colorado, floods in the northeast and Great Lakes region, suicide bombings in the Cradle of Civilization, mass demonstrations in Istanbul, ethnic wars in sub-Saharan Africa, vanishing species in the oceans and on land, vanishing glaciers everywhere, nuclear weapon proliferation in unstable nations and home invasions in suburbia.

To hire a thief, part two

(In part one, I described a theft of my belongings and identity in 2002.  This series is a jointly written story by me and the thief, describing how that happened and what occurred between us.  We hear now from the thief.)

Chuck, the criminal, takes a turn:

I first learned about identity crimes in 1995 from a prostitute I met while in the Marine Corps.  We stole mail, cashed checks, and applied for credit cards with assumed identities.
